7 July 2005 London bombings
7/7/19
Today is the 14th anniversary of the London bombings. As with most terrorism events there are those that claim that attack didn't happen the way that the authorities claim. Much like with the 9/11 conspiracy theories, many believe that this was the work of the government to support their wars in the Middle East. Understandably after such a traumatic and chaotic event there was some confusion in reporting which has helped fuel these theories. There were reports that the explosions on the underground trains had occurred underneath the carriage rather than inside. This was reported by eye witnesses and reported by a Guardian journalist Mark Honigsbaum. The theories also question the timings of the trains on the day that got the bombers to London.
There has been a film produced about these conspiracy theories called "7/7 Ripple Effect". Like the 9/11 conspiracy theory film "Loose Change" this was a homemade YouTube production. "7/7 Ripple Effect" was made by "Maub Dib" - this is a pseudonym derived from the Dune novels and it was actually created by John Hill, a Sheffield-born man living in Ireland who believes he is the messiah.
A strong voice refuting the conspiracy claims is Rachel North. She is a writer and blogger that was an eyewitness to the events. The conspiracist dismiss her as a government plant or a "crisis actor". It is always sad when tragic events become hijacked by conspiracy theorists. This is particularly painful for the more than 700 people injured by events 14 years ago and the families of those 52 people who died. The evidence for a conspiracy has never been proven and was refuted comprehensively in the BBC documentary "The Conspiracy Files".
