The past few years has seen an increase in the number of fact checking websites. There are several reliable ones covering topics from the UK and from the rest of the world. Full Fact is a UK-based site looking mostly at politics but also other areas of British life and culture. Poltifact is an American based factchecking site which keeps track of the truthfulness of political figures. Snopes is a website that started out debunking urban myths but now focuses on factchecking news stories.
Fact checking sites aren’t perfect. They can only check actual claims that are made by someone or an entity. The evidence may also not be conclusive enough to come to a decision either way.
